Hall of Famer Duke Abbruzzi was honored by the Rhode Island Baseball Coaches Association at a dinner that was held at the Italian-American Club on Kelly Street. In 1971 Duke's wild card entry Rogers downed previously unbeaten Barrington two games to one to win the State Championship. Both finalists were members of the Eastern Division, as was Warren High. (Duke was elected to the Rhode Island Interscholastic Hall of Fame in 2008.)
