ANNE HACKLEY CARDENAS (Athlete, Class of 2011)

Anne Hackley was a member of the Mary V. Quirk Girls Cross Country team that finished second at the 1971 Rhode Island Junior High School State Championships.  A year later, while still competing for Quirk, she set the state record in the half-mile (2.41), in the process breaking the record of fellow Hall of Famer Laurie Figureid.  That fall she won all of her meets, including the individual State Championship.

And then in the spring Anne was named the state’s Co-Outstanding Junior High School Outdoor Track Girl.

Moving on to Warren High School she captured first team All State honors in Cross Country.  In Outdoor Track she earned All Northeast Division honors in the 440 relay and the mile relay and was a member of the high school squads that won the Northeast Division and Rhode Island State Championships in both 1974 and 1975.  (The 1974 group is one of the Warren teams that have been inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame.)

Anne achieved second team All State recognition in the outdoor track 440 relay while competing for the 1975 championship team.  She also finished sixth in the 880 at the state championships.
